Incawasi has been registered as a non-profit organization in Peru since March 2005. It was created to take over the operations of an organization that had unexpectedly closed, which had until then been providing services to the children. Recognizing how important the services that the beneficiaries received through the institution were to the children and their families, the Peruvian and foreign volunteers on the ground decided to come together to create what is now Asociacion Incawasi, which in Quecha means “House of the Inca”.
Roger Diaz Guerra (Peru), Marco Leyva Paredes (Peru), Margarete Lysaght (Ireland), Kieran Farrell (Ireland) and Susanne Gruner (Germany) created a new organization that could accommodate a greater number of children, provide more nutritious meals, improve the health component of the program and make education the centerpiece of its effort.
